💛 maybe you already made six-figures and didn't even know it

Hey Reader,

Six-figures. The sought-after revenue goal with two commas and five plump, confident-building zeros.

I'm working on some material around changes you need to make to earn six figures (which will be showing up in your inbox soon), and it occurred to me that many of you may have already made six figures.

"Whaaat?"
I know!
That's why I had to send this sooner than later.

When you hear "make six figures," my guess is that you think of making one hundred thousand in a one-year period, as if that's the only way to do it. It's not!

Here goes...

The first way: Once, realizing I had only ever tracked our sales by calendar year, I added up all the revenue we’ve ever made in Hey Marvelous. That's every dollar we earned from day one of the business. I was dumbfounded. It was a big-big-big number that I’m not at liberty to share (sorry!), but something shifted in me that day. I impressed myself with our all-time sales! Suddenly, my shoulders were back, my girls forward, and my walk had a confident swagger. Numbers are powerful like that.

Calculate your all-time sales. What is the total of every dollar you've made since the inception of your business? We tend to break our numbers into calendar years, chunking it up into tidy 12-month bundles that prevent us from seeing all the revenue we’ve ever earned.

Unless you’ve been giving out refunds all year or just started your business, your all-time sales will be more than what you made this year. And I want you swaggering beside me, so calculate that number.

The second way: A number that I always track in my spreadsheet is the trailing twelve months (TTM). When you start a new calendar year, the year-to-date sales are small because you're resetting your revenue on January 1 to zero. But what's helpful is always to have the sales from the previous twelve months.

Calculate your TTM. What are your sales for the last twelve months? Go back past January and get a whole 12-month view. What is that number? (If you were to do the TTM today, you would calculate the sales from December 2022 to November 2023.)

There you have it. Impress yourself with your own numbers.

Hit reply if any of you have made six figures over any time period. I wanna know!!

Hello Reader,🫠 Yesterday I spent three hours making one Instagram post. Giving myself a little credit, it was an eight-page carousel. But still. THREE HOURS? For the love of God, what is wrong with me? In the last couple of weeks I've wrote, recorded, edited and published eleven podcast episodes. I sit down, grab the ballerina pink headphones, turn on the big mic, start talking, and somehow an episode comes out the other side. Editing? Ten minutes tops.Show notes? Roughly five minutes. Post...

Hello Reader,Well, this got out of hand quickly. A little while ago, I started learning about Human Design. Then I started experimenting with it in my own life. Then I thought, I should make a podcast about this. And apparently that was a very big yes, because now I cannot stop making episodes. I love researching them. I love figuring out how to explain something that initially sounds wildly complicated in a way that actually makes sense. I love coming up with stories and silly analogies. I...

Hi Reader, I witness this strange phenomenon every Tuesday. As part of our Luminaries coaching program, I critique sales emails written by women trying to sell their online programs. Their first drafts often come across as if they're knocking gently on someone's office door and asking in a soft voice, "Oh, hey, hi there. Sorry to bother you, but do you have a minute to listen to my idea? If not, I can come back later." The "office, "of course, is the inbox of their readers. Their whispery...
