Hello Reader,
It was early. Still dark outside. The crows were already at it, squawking away at their first morning meeting. I was at my desk in my pajamas, fresh coffee in hand, tangled hair, no concealer, ring light off.
A message dinged in WhatsApp. A client asked if we could do some asynchronous coaching through her launch, which was starting immediately.
I type-screamed YES, because I knew a little something about her: she’s a Projector in Human Design, and her best decision-making happens when she talks things out.
And because of this, my one condition was that she would "speak" her ideas to me instead of typing in this asynchronous session. Genius.
What I didn’t expect was what it would do for me.
And so it began. Her messages came in quick succession as she downloaded all her thoughts about the launch. It was a little jumbled as any stream of consciousness is but this was exactly the point. Just talk, let me hear you and let you hear you.
As I played the WhatsApp messages, I stood up from my desk and started slowly pacing. I'd hear her question, and turn it over and over in my mind. It was like holding an object in my hands being able to look at it from all sides before giving any feedback. I had time to think before responding, which is not how most coaching works. I unexpectedly loved it.
I was feeling pretty good about things. The copy for her launch emails are getting written, she's talking out future marketing strategy and together we're moving her business forward. And I'm unshowered and on my third coffee. This is fabulous.
And then she asked me a question that I didn't see coming.
(Side note: Projectors are known for this. They ask the kind of question that stops you mid-sentence and makes you think. Like really think.)
She asked: how does your Human Design and my Human Design fit together in a coaching situation?
I had never thought about that! I'm always studying my chart. I know how I best make decisions, how I call in great opportunities, my natural gifts, my life theme, the wound that is my greatest gift, and even the power that I was told to hide... but I had never asked: what does it say about me as a coach?!!
I reached for my chart and slid it in front of me. It's messy with a ton of side notes and a coffee stain. I stared at it for the eighteen hundredth time and started reading it from this new lens.
Here’s what I learned in the context of coaching:
↪ 💪 I have a talent for making complicated things simple.
↪ 🧐 I love going deep, investigating something until I really understand it.
↪ 🛩️ And I can get these spontaneous insights that arrive out of nowhere. The kind that land mid-sentence and surprise even me.
↪ ☀️ And my most accessible, natural gift? Reflection. Step away, sit with something, come back with something worth saying.
Which is exactly what I had been doing all morning, in my PJs, alongside the crow's confab.
I wasn’t just supporting her design, I was operating from mine.
Here’s the thing. Some of those gifts, the going deep, the spontaneous insights, those show up live, in the Zoom room, in real time. And some of them, like reflection, need a little space to do their best work.
Which means I have skills that work in both directions. And I didn’t know that until she asked.
This is what I keep running into with Human Design. You think you’ve learned what there is to learn about yourself, and then a client asks one question on a Wednesday at 7 am and a whole floor opens up beneath you.
There’s always more. It’s endless. But that's why I love it so much.
If you want to understand how you’re wired, the Human Design Field Notes Podcast is a great place to start. I’m building a free audio library that breaks it all down. Check it out here.
And when you’re ready to look at your own chart, I do fun, how-did-she-know-that kind of readings. Bookity book here.

P.S. Don't worry, if we meet live on Zoom, I'll be wearing concealer.
